Acts, study 5 - Chapter 26

Introduction

Paul has been in gaol for over two years when he is brought before King Agrippa. The Jews have charged him with speaking against their nation. He is asked to give an account of his actions.

As a whole group – read Acts 26:1-29

Divide the group into two – give each a piece of paper – one group is to be the prosecution and one group is to be the defense.

The accusation is – ‘Paul has brought discredit on the Jewish faith and the God of Israel. He deserves to be condemned’.

Each group is to prepare their case and then each group is to present it to the other side.

Then in turn each side can ask one question of the other side – then swap the questioning. Decide when enough questions have been asked.

Then decide which side you think has won – the prosecution or the defense.

Read Acts 26: 30-32 for Agrippa’s conclusion.

  1. What matters were critical for the total turnaround in Paul’s life?

  2. Read v29. Why would Paul want anyone to become like he is when his life has been so difficult? Do you want people to become like you?

  3. Are there any aspects of Paul’s defense that motivate you or instruct you in telling others about Jesus?

During the week: This is the last study in Acts. You might like to read what happened to Paul in the rest of the book during the week. It shouldn’t surprise you that to the end of the time we know about Paul, he continued to take up every opportunity to tell people about Jesus.
