Clean out your clutter for a great cause

Have you got any 'gently used' kids clothing, equipment, dress-ups or toys you'd like to donate to help Darling Street Church raise funds for a special group of kids?

On Saturday, 7th September, from 10am to 4pm, our church will host a community event which will feature more than 1,000 top quality recycled children's items for sale. There will also be cake stalls, live music, raffles and more.

All donations for the sale will be accepted on the 2nd and 3rd of September between 9am and 5pm in the Church Office, 666 Darling Street, Rozelle. Or, you can drop them off at St Thomas' Church, on Sunday 1st September either before or after the 10am or 5pm services.

All profits raised from the event will be donated to International Justice Mission, to rescue kids from slavery ... to give them a much-needed second chance.

Get Involved

We need helpers for the event. If you can lend a hand, here are the ways you can participate:

  • Accept and process the donations - a four hour shift in the church office on either Monday, 2/09/19 or Tuesday, 3/09/19 to help sort, price, iron and hang the donated clothes ready for sale.

  • Baking - prepare items and / or serve for two hours on the cake and coffee stall.

  • Busking (kids or teens) - one hour busking slots to help entertain and raise funds at the event. Buskers can keep 50% of their takings with the other 50% going to IJM.

  • Set up / Pack down - all the set up and pack down jobs. These are varied and can be allocated according to your time / physical ability.

Donate prizes - prizes that can be raffled on the day

Spread the Word

The more we tell, the more we sell! Share the news about the Second Chance event amongst your family, friends and community. We want people to donate items and we want people to visit the event.

For your church community as we put this event on. For our neighbours as we invite them to get involved. For International Justice Mission, as we raise awareness and funds to support their work in ending modern-day slavery in the world. There will be a church-wide prayer meeting on Wednesday, 4th September, 7:30pm to 8:30pm at St Thomas'.

Tips for Preparing Your Donations

  • Only up-to-date, good quality clothing items can be accepted.

  • Inspect your items carefully. Clothes that are out-dated, soiled, stained, missiing buttons, faded or with holes can't be sold.

  • All clothes must be laundered and on a hanger.

  • Attach a blank card / tag on the right shoulder with a small safety pin, if you are facing the item. This will be used to write a price on the item.

  • When you drop off your items, place on the racks supplied. Group by size, to help make drop off faster.

Shoes and Loose Items

  • Place these items in a ziploc type bag (bibs, bows, socks, cars, infants toys, etc)

  • Blank card / tag goes INSIDE the bag.

  • If shoes are too large for a bag, you may tie / attach them together (use zip ties, ribbon, etc).

  • Laces and shoes must be in excellent condition.

Toys, Furniture and Home Decor

  • Items must be in working order and clean. Please ensure working batteries are included with all battery operated items.

  • Puzzles must have all the pieces. Use clear wrap to cover the pieces in place, then tape it.

  • Attach blank card / tags in an easy to find, prominent place using packing tape or zip ties. Small parts should be bagged and taped to the main part very securely. Use HEAVY tape.

  • Small electrical applicances, computers, computer parts, printers, are not accepted.
